I have lived in Tyler, Texas for almost 10 years now. Wow, that's actually hard to believe. But, no matter how long I live here, I will never stop wondering why some people use the phases they do. For instance...today, I was at Target, and I was in the parking lot about to put my shopping cart away (so that some insane person wouldn't yell at me), when a very kind man came up to me and said, "May I please take your buggy mam?" I of course said "Yes sir," all the while Jacob is having a laughing fit in the car! "Why does that man think you have buggies?" is exactly what Jacob started chanting and he didn't relent. "Why would he want to have buggies?" "That is so weird!" Of course I was laughing too and had to explain that shopping carts are called buggies in East Texas! There are lots of other phrases that catch me off guard also. If I talked like a true East Texan I would say the following: We went to the picture show to see Indiana Jones. (I usually say movie because that is the way they have been
advertised for the last 50 years!) I have to carry Emily to the doctor for her 18month check-up. (I always take my kids in the car because it is faster and not so heavy) I got Sarah's pictures made the other day. (Well who made them? I usually have my kid's pictures taken by photographers) Or perhaps my all time favorite is when someone
doesn't understand you and they say, "Do What?" I just look at them with a confused stare. And whatever you do, don't ever answer someone without acknowledging them with the proper sir or mam. That is just plain rude and a habit that we are still trying to instill in our kids. But I have to admit, I love the people here and their funny sayings. They are the most kind and enduring friends you would ever want. I must go now, I am
fixin' to go to bed!

Did you drink any soda water before you went to bed? (this is Debi Whitley from Carrollton) Great post! I love the way people talk in Texas, too. :)
Erica, O.k. another Carrolton person. Of course I found you from the Blakes. And for some reason I never realized you guys live in Tyler, I always thought Houston and thought all the visiting you do to our ward is crazy. Well now I know you don't drive as far.
I have lived in Texas now for 13 years and I still don't understand what all the different wording is all about.
Oh ya, I love your posts, you are so funny, or should I say your kids are. I would have never guessed that Jacob was like that. When he is in Primary he is so good.
